Some spectacular crafts are so simple that they can be assembled in just a few minutes from improvised materials. For example, a holographic pyramid for a phone. You can make a small moving hologram using just a pyramid cut out of a CD box and any smartphone.
MEASURE AND MARK
Draw a trapezoid on a piece of paper with a base length of 61.5 mm, a top length of 12 mm, and a side length of 43 mm. Trace the shape on the acrylic CD case with a marker pen, repeating the drawing 4 times. For a simplified version, you can round the dimensions as in the following drawing.
PYRAMID CUTTING
Carefully cut the lines drawn on the body of the CD with a utility knife and carefully deepen the grooves until it separates. Be careful when removing the cut pieces, as acrylic has relatively sharp edges.
ASSEMBLE THE PYRAMID
Place the 4 pieces next to each other along their 43mm sides, and attach them using a thin strip of tape on each common edge. When the 3 edges are glued, fold them into a pyramid shape and glue the remaining edge.
HOLOGRAM ON A SMARTPHONE
Simply place your phone on a flat surface, place the inverted pyramid in the center of the screen, and play any video content that’s available on YouTube – search for “pyramid hologram” to find videos specially crafted for this trick.
As a result, you will have dancing holograms, as if floating in the air, which looks amazing in the dark! The effect is visible from all 4 sides.
